Dear SCO Customer, Enclosed find your copy of Support Level Supplement (SLS) unx233. This SLS will allow you to install SCO UNIX Operating System Release 3.2.0 and later for Micro Computers based on Micro Channel Architecture on systems using IBM ESDI drives manufactured by Seagate Technologies (e.g. ST 177i 60 MB). To use this supplement, replace the N1 diskette provided with your original distribution with the N1 diskette supplied with this supplement; and install the Volume 1 diskette with custom after the installation process (detailed instructions follow). 1. Start the installation by booting from the new N1 diskette. (SCO ESDI Supplement to SCO UNIX 386MC - Volume N1) Follow the instructions as displayed on the screen. If you are asked during the installation process to relink the kernel you must say no, as you cannot do so until after the Volume 1 diskette has been installed. Again, DO NOT RE-LINK THE KERNEL UNTIL AFTER YOU HAVE INSTALLED Volume 1 below. Complete the installation normally as instructed and reboot the system. 2. Install the Volume 1 diskette via "etc/custom": - Type /etc/custom (The custom menu will appear) - Position the cursor so that Install is highlighted and press . - Make sure that the words A New Product are highlighted in the window in the lower right hand corner of the screen and press . - Make sure the words Entire Product are highlighted in the Choose an option section of the screen and press . - You will be prompted to Insert distribution Volume 1 and press Insert the diskette labeled SCO ESDI Supplement to SCO UNIX 386MC Volume 1 and press . - You will see the following messages Installing custom data files Executing Product Prep Script - You will be prompted at the bottom of the screen to Press any key to continue. Press - The message Creating file lists will flash onto the screen and then you will be prompted to Insert the requested Volume and press Since the diskette is already in the drive press - You will see the following messages in sequence: Extracting Files Executing SCO ESDI Supplemenmt Init Script The UNIX Operating System will now be rebuilt. This will take a few minutes. Please wait. Root for this build is /. The UNIX Kernal has been rebuilt - Next you will be asked if you wish to boot the kernel by default enter y and press . - You will see the following messages in sequence: Backing up /unix to /unix.old Installing new /unix The kernel environment includes device node files and /etc/inittab. The new kernel may require changes to /etc/inittab or device nodes. - Next you will be asked if you want the kernel environment rebuilt, enter y and press - You will see the following messages: The kernel has been successfully linked and installed. To activate it, reboot your system. Setting up new kernel environment - You will then be prompted to press any key to continue, press - At the main custom menu move the highlighted entry to Quit and press . Press again on the highlighted yes. 3. At the prompt enter the command haltsys to reboot the system and activate the changes. Your ESDI SLS unx233 is now installed correctly.
