Dear SCO Customer, Enclosed is Support Level Supplement (SLS) unx318. This SLS provides a new serial driver for SCO UNIX System V/386 Release 3.2 Operating System Version 2.0 and SCO Open Desktop Release 1.1 for computers based on Micro Channel Architecture (MCA). This new driver addresses problems with system panics that may be experienced when using non-intelligent serial multiport cards. SLS unx318 should ONLY be applied to systems running SCO UNIX System V/386 Release 3.2 Operating System Version 2.0 or SCO Open Desktop Release 1.1 for computers based on Micro Channel Architecture (MCA). Following are instructions for the installation of SLS unx318: (1) Bring the system into System Maintenance mode. (2) Type the following commands after the system prompt: # cd / # /etc/custom (do not type the "#", this is the system prompt) (3) Choose "Install". Then choose "A New Product". Next choose "Entire Product". Insert the Micro Channel Serial Driver Enhancement disk and choose "Continue". After driver backup, press any key to continue. At this point, choose "Continue" again. It is not necessary to remove the Micro Channel Serial Driver Enhancement disk. (4) Answer "y" to the question about relinking a new kernel. Answer "y" to the question about allowing the kernel to boot by default. You will also want to answer "y" to the question about rebuilding the kernel environment. Press any key to continue after the kernel relink has completed. (5) After the kernel relink completes, choose "Quit" to exit custom. At this point, type the following to reboot your system: # /etc/shutdown (do not type the "#", this is the system prompt) (6) Installation of the Micro Channel Serial Driver Enhancement is now complete. Following are instructions for the removal of SLS unx318: If you want to restore the previous serial drivers on the system, use the following procedure: (1) Bring the system into System Maintenance mode. (2) Type the following: # cd / # /etc/custom (do not type the "#", this is the system prompt) (3) Choose "Remove". Then choose "Micro Channel Serial Driver Enhancement". Next choose "ALL". Choose "Yes" to continue. (4) Answer "y" to the question about relinking a new kernel. Answer "y" to the question about allowing the kernel to boot by default. You will also want to answer "y" to the question about rebuilding the kernel environment. Press any key to continue after the kernel relink has completed. (5) After the kernel relink completes, choose "Quit" to exit custom. At this point, type the following to reboot your system: # /etc/shutdown (do not type the "#", this is the system prompt) (5) At this point, the serial drivers have been restored to their original configuration.
